"Hearts of Blue" (Hearts #4) by L.H. Cosway

Hearts of Blue (Hearts #4)
by L.H. Cosway

She upholds the law. He breaks it.

Two blue hearts, both alike in bravery
In not-so-fair London, where we lay our scene
From gun crime to petty theft
Where family is blood and survival makes hands unclean
In this place, we find two hearts who should be foes
And yet, amidst the turmoil their love still grows
Misadventure abounds and the divide will bring them strife
But with luck, death doesn’t always mean an end to life.

Hearts of Blue is a standalone contemporary romance that tells the story of star-crossed lovers Karla Sheehan and Lee Cross, a police constable and the thief who steals her heart.

Ms. Cosway is one of the few authors were I worship the ground that she walks on. I don’t know how she does it but she is my go to author to put a smile on my face. I can't NOT give it 5 Stars.

Karla and Lee’s runs parallel to King of Hearts. I have to admit I wasn’t too sure to begin with as neither Karla or Lee impressed me that much in King of Hearts. I love to be proven wrong. The prologue broke me fecking heart. He was tired of suffering, tired of seeing his brothers live a life of poverty. Lee Cross where have you been all my life? Well actually I'm a Cross Lover and I'd even go cougar for wee Little Liam. Hang on there Ladies he's 20 alright.
But getting back to the wonderful Lee Cross. Lee has looked after his brothers and cousin Sophie for a long time now. He isn’t on the right side oft he law but if you have to make a decision between a bad and a worse decision you obviously take the bad one, right? Lee is loyal, funny, street smart, he puts family above all else but he should lay off using his fists more. Lee lives in a grey zone and doesn’t trust the old Bill.

That changes when he meets Karla Then there is Karla, a copper with a strong sense of right and wrong. With a spineless coward of a father. Who is Super Intendent on the Police and basically he is a right wanker. She split from her ex due to cheating and well because he was called Gavin (only pikey’s are called Gavin) and he is a complete and utter tosser. Karla thinks that Lee is too young for her which isn’t true quite the opposite really. Lee is exactly what she needs.

“Lee,” I pleaded, desperately needing him to back off.
“You’re too young for me.”
“Karla, I’m perfect for you,” he countered, right before his mouth dipped in and his lips brushed lightly across mine.”

Move over bitch, he is MINE. Kidding, well not really! Karla was careful and skittish and although there was mutual attraction. She found it hard to cross the line. Pun not intended.

She had so many run ins with the Cross’s it was hard not to have a run in with Lee. Those boys have got skills and the heist they pulled off to get out, bliming awesome. It did drag in some places and it did annoy me that Karla took so long to make her mind up. Karla realises what it is like on the other side of the law and to what lengths some people will go to.

I loved Karla and Lee together they had chemistry although Karla tried to deny it.
"One day, Karla, you'll understand that having my hands on you is never a bad thing.
" They are sweet. "Lee" His mouth moved against my hair.
"What is it, Karla?
"Why are you hugging me?"
"You looked like you need to be held."

 They are honest and real.

“If I wasn’t me and you weren’t you, I’d go home with you in a heartbeat. You know that, right?” I told him quietly. For a second he glanced away, then bent his head to reply, his voice husky,
“It’s because you’re you and I’m me that we want each other, Karla. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.” Before I could stop him his mouth dipped to mine, and he laid a soft, lingering kiss on my lips.”
“No one’s playing games. I like you a whole hell of a lot, Karla. I’ve told you that already, so stop trying to convince yourself otherwise”

All the air left me when he moved forward, backing me into the door and cupping my face in his hands, his gaze reverent.
“Give me a chance, and I’ll prove to you that everything you think you see is blurred by perception.”
“I just really, really like you. I like the things you do to me, and I don’t want to lose them.” Feeling his jaw move, I thought he might be smiling.
“If it’s any consolation, I really like the things I do to you, too. Actually, I fucking love them. And you won’t lose me, so long as you make the choice to be with me.”

It all comes down to a screeching halt. Do you warn the person that you love? Or do you let them walk into a trap? With all the obstacles out of the way they can start fresh. They do it right. Three months of feelings and it isn’t a lost love. No sneaking around and keeping secrets. They both get what they want. Lee opens a restaurant and Karla becomes Serge. It’s not only the main characters that you become invested in but also the secondary characters. I would love to see all of them have a book. Reya was a riot that girl got humour.

"Guess how many bras I'm wearing?" Reya asked as she jogged alongside me on the treadmill. I sputtered a laugh.
"Um, I'm hoping just one." She shook her head.
"Nope, I've got three of these bad boys on right now. Otherwise, the girls would be flopping around like an elephant on a trampoline."

We got to see Alexis and her pregnancy with Oliver. I loved how the two friends interacted. When Alexis finds out about Lee.
"I bloody well knew it!" she exclaimed, marching around the sofa and coming to plonk down beside me.
"I want to know everything, you secretive tittle tramp, and start from the beginning." Two lessons that they learnt though.

Karla learnt that
"We're stronger in the places that we've been broken." I really felt for her and that she couldn’t have the children she desired to have.
Lee learnt that
"Everything good hurts first. If we hadn't soldiered on, we wouldn’t' be here right now.

Can’t wait for more of the Cross boys.
