Vein Of Love (Blackest Gold #1) by R. Scarlett

Goodreads Review

"Darkness isn't all one shade, sweetheart."

Three centuries ago, Molly Darling’s ancestors signed a contract in blood—daemon blood—to protect themselves from harm. On the eve she turns nineteen, Molly leaves for her birthday party against her parent’s wishes, sick of their warnings about her "betrothal to a demon."

Except that she’s very much betrothed, and he’s very much a demon—one who’s only agreed to the nuptials to steal Molly’s ancient daemon powers. Brash, arrogant, and built like a Greek god, Tensley Knight keeps showing up to save Molly from otherworldly attacks, only to insult her a moment later.

As Molly learns more about the demon world, she realizes two things: that her family’s safety depends on a successful marriage, while any chance of freedom she’ll ever have calls for Tensley’s demise.

Yet sometimes Molly spots a tortured soul beyond those liquid grey eyes, and there’s no denying the way her skin tingles when Tensley touches it. In Vein of Love, safety requires sacrifice, foe becomes lover, and one must decide whether to kiss...or to kill.

I love paranormal romance since I’ve been reading there has always had to have some fantasy or paranormal aspect to it. This is also exactly why I requested this book.

This is utterly unique. Although with have a world filled with demons but not your usual demons though there is a twist. We have a dash of Greek Mythology with some sweet and for me personally some annoying moments. As a debut novel I can see Ms. Scarlett going places. But I’ll give it to you straight I’m picky when it comes to books and not everything can be to my liking or my tastes.

A very long time ago a contract was signed for the protection of the Darling’s daughter has she had special abilities. Luck was not on the Darlings side. But as the contract was binding and it had been signed in blood there was no other way around it. A contract signed with the demons. But that girl with the special abilities hasn’t turned up until now.

Demons don’t forget a contract and they don’t forget a debt. Our heroine Molly Darling has been promised to our Hero Tensley Knight. Molly has the special ability. Molly & Tensley are to be wed.

Surprise here is your soon to be husband.

Molly is merely a pawn in this game and she hasn’t got a full grasp of her powers yet. The first twenty percent of the book was hard to get into but then it started to pick up. But in saying that Molly ruined the book for me. Now I don’t expect my heroines to be kick arse from the beginning but she was just too naive and has no sense of self preservation. There were times I just wanted to smack her.

Tensley Knight is a cruel and ruthless demon, well sometimes any way and he is trying to make amends for the mistakes his brother made. But he is also sexy and mysterious. He can’t afford to get wrapped up in a daemon or a human as it is fatal for their race. The demons have no heart and falling in love can cost them everything.

I didn’t like them together at all. I get the whole working against him thing from Molly but dude if you aren’t interested then move on. Especially when you’re not officially on break with your demon skanky certifiable ex. I didn’t feel anything negative or positive for Tensley. He is just there and I don’t get him. At. All.

I love September & Illya but this book had more of a YA feel to it then a NA feel. And YA isn’t really for me. STILL a good read and worth trying it out.
